The ELF Journal – Studies in Fantastic Literatures is an academic publication dedicated to disseminating research in the field of fantastic literatures, encompassing fantasy, horror, and science fiction, as well as other borderline and hybrid forms of fictional uncanny. In dialogue with the growing interest in these manifestations in literature and the arts, the journal was created to fill a gap in the Brazilian academic publishing landscape, expanding the visibility of national production and promoting exchange with international studies. Linked to the Group for Studies in Fantastic Literatures (ELF) of the Faculty of Letters at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, the journal's general objective is to promote and disseminate high-quality academic research on the fantastic genre. Among its specific objectives are stimulating critical debate on fantasy, horror, and science fiction; valuing Brazilian academic production; encouraging interdisciplinarity; and consolidating a space for dialogue between different theoretical, historical, comparative, and cultural approaches. ELF Magazine welcomes works that address fantasy literature in its multiple manifestations, including, but not limited to: classic, contemporary, urban, or dark fantasy; supernatural, gothic, psychological, or physical horror; and science fiction in its dystopian, technological, or space-based forms. The magazine also remains open to interdisciplinary perspectives that connect literature with film, cultural studies, philosophy, history, communication, and other related fields. The magazine's audience includes researchers in the fields of Literature, Film, Journalism, and other areas of Cultural Studies, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, professors, translators, authors, and readers interested in fantasy. The publication is biennial, operates on an open access basis, making all texts freely available on its official website, and is an independent production of the ELF Group. ELF Magazine's editorial policy is based on principles of academic rigor, ethics, and transparency. Submitted works undergo double-blind peer review, ensuring the anonymity of authors and reviewers. The journal accepts academic articles and critical essays written in Portuguese, and all approved texts undergo spelling, grammar, and layout review before publication. Committed to good scientific research practices, the ELF Journal adopts the editorial ethics guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the CRediT taxonomy for identifying authorial contributions, and clear policies to combat plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and other forms of academic misconduct. The journal also rigorously observes the General Data Protection Law (LGPD), guaranteeing the responsible and secure use of information from authors, reviewers, and collaborators. The editorial team is composed of research editors from the fantastic, with the support of PhD reviewers, proofreaders, layout designers, and a technical team responsible for the journal's digital platform. The ELF Journal – Studies in Fantastic Literatures invites researchers to explore, from multiple critical perspectives, the contact zones between the real and the unreal, the strange and the familiar, the imaginary and the symbolic — territories where the fantastic continues to question, unsettle, and expand the boundaries of literature.
